The word Nollywood is the nickname given to the film industry of Nigeria. Nigeria is a country located in Western Africa. It is described as “slightly more than twice the size of California and borders the countries of Benin, Cameroon, Chad and Niger” ("Nigeria,”). The country is composed of more than 2oo ethnic groups with the most popular and influential being the Hausas and Fulani, Yoruba and Ibo ("Nigeria,”). The most widely spoken language is English because the country was once colonized by the British Empire. However, there are over 400 indigenous languages spoken all over the country with the popular being Yoruba, Hausa and Ibo ("Nigeria,”). Although Nigeria is an oil rich country, it is a poor nation with high levels of unemployment and low levels of development. Even with the negative factors affecting the nation, a movie industry was created and went on to become one of the worlds’ largest.
