I remember what Phillip Cartelli wrote about Nollywood growing beyond its Nigerian and African base. Can Nollywood really grow beyond its Nigerian and African base? This is a question that provides a variety of answers. I personally think Nollywood has a great potential to do so. However, there will have to be major changes made to the industry. First, I want Nollywood producers and directors to think quality instead of quantity. Why flood the markets with fifty horrible films in a year when you can create one or two high quality films that will leave a lasting impact? Nollywood can compete with Hollywood on the world stage if only the producers and directors care more about creating high quality films. One of the main reasons Nollywood movies are of low quality is because producers and directors take a few months to shoot a film. They need more time. Do not rush. Take a year or two to shoot one film because that is enough time to make sure everything is done perfectly before the film is released into the markets. In conclusion, I am excited to see the future of Nollywood. Nollywood is a young industry with great potential. It can be influential as Hollywood if only certain changes are made. However, these changes will take time. After all, Rome wasn’t built in one day.
